Enjoy – Learn – Succeed

Gill Halls and I have been doing assemblies this week about the new school. It is funny but we are all now so used to the building site, that we hardly notice it. We showed the film that is on the website to remind everyone of how much has happened in the last few years.
Third week of our new timetable since the students moved up a year on June 21st -one more week of learning before Enrichment Week and Work Experience. It has been fascinating to observe the students’s reaction to moving up a year and starting their new timetable at a time of year when they are usually winding down.
We said farewell to our leaving 6th Form students at an excellent 6th Form Prom at the Midland Hotel on Thursday. Superbly organised by 6th Form Council, we all had a great time. The food was good, presentations were suitably embarrassing for those that won and there were a lot of smiles.
We have started our new academic year! Been really pleased overall. Students have been magnificent – look smart, getting to lessons promptly, got the correct equipment and working really well. Feedback from the staff has been very positive overall.
A really important event as we are spending the day reflecting on what makes a really good lesson. We are also getting the opportunity today to spend time with our new staff who officially join us in September – they are very excited to be joining Beckfoot.
We took all our athletes over to Cleckheaton stadium on Wednesday for the 2010 Sports Day. The weather wasn’t great and it was rather cold, but the event was still excellent. There were some stunning individual performances both on the track and field.
A lovely and slightly sad day yesterday. We wished our Yr 11 and Yr 13 students all the best as they finished school before starting exams. They have been wonderful to work with and it will be strange not to see all of them every day.
Had a wonderful evening yesterday meeting some of the parents and students who are joining us next year. What struck me above everything else was how excited they felt. We talk a lot about the connection between success in school with enjoyment of learning.
I have played in the Staff v Students 5 a side football match in memory of those who lost their lives in the Bradford City fire 25 years ago and have used muscles which have been unused for many years! The event was co-ordinated by Year 9 students and raised close to £150 for the Bradford Burns Unit.
Had a wonderful day out with our Year 11 students at Flamingo Land today having attended their Prom the night before. We took the year group for a day out to thank them for the fantastic work they have done this year in preparation for their forthcoming GCSE exams.
